Asus & SoftKinetic introduce gesture entertainment with Kinect for PC gaming

The WAVI Xtion accessory for PC, a Kinect-like motion sensing camera and wireless media streaming box will let you control your media center with basic hand gestures. The Asus device will come bundled with DanceWall, a dancing game from SoftKinetic that’s like Tetris meets DDR.

The WAVI Xtion has been designed to provide the most intuitive living room experience, allowing end users to remotely control their PC and turn it into an entertainment center on TV. The WAVI Xtion will provide unique, 3D gesture-based multimedia, web browsing and gaming entertainment content to families. The product is scheduled to launch in Q3 2011.

“We’re delighted to work with SoftKinetic for their unique expertise on gesture-based entertainment. Their contribution through the bundle of DanceWall with our innovative media center product should be impactful,” said Emma Chu, deputy section manager, Multimedia Business Unit of ASUS. “DanceWall is a perfect title to provide an exciting 3D gesture-recognition entertainment for families and friends.”

In DanceWall the goal for players is to achieve the highest score possible by successfully maneuvering their onscreen avatar to fit through cutout shapes in approaching walls. Players control avatars’ movements by their own in-room movements, and can conform the avatar to any shape players make with their body. DanceWall can be played alone, or as a team of two players.
“We are excited to be part of the launch of the WAVI Xtion,” said Mike Nichols, vice president and general manager of SoftKinetic Studios. “The WAVI Xtion product is truly groundbreaking and pushes the current boundaries of gesture-based products; we are proud that DanceWall has been selected by ASUS for its launch.”

DanceWall, developed in collaboration between SoftKinetic Studios and Orange Vallée, is powered by SoftKinetic’s gesture-recognition middleware, iisu (“The Interface is You”). iisu is fully compatible with the WAVI Xtion, which enables the growing SoftKinetic developer community to bring their products to market easily through the device.

In addition, this allows ASUS to ensure a long-term and viable middleware solution, as iisu is compatible with all 3D sensor technologies currently on the market. The iisu middleware is free for non-commercial use; interested developers are invited to find out more and apply here: http://www.softkinetic.com/Developers/Freeiisulicence.aspx
