PlayStation 3 firmware update 3.56 may hold backdoor access to your PS3 console. Attempt to stop 'root key' hack + (hackers crack code in 24 hours) - PS3

The latest firmware update for Sony's flagship PlayStation 3 console may contain a way fro the electronics giant to check or alter code without completing a new update.

The new code contains an execution routine may not be removed as it is part of the confirmation used by their servers when you go online.

Let's hope hackers can't find a way of using this code to attack your console. This firmware change appears to be a direct response to the jailbreak that appeared to open the door to pirate software. Sony have already taken a restraining order out against Geohot who discovered the exploit and claim it doesn't open the console to piracy.

Let's hope this firmware update is better planned than Sony's rootkit deployed on some CD titles. This caused Windows exposure to hacks and led to a class action lawsuit against the company.
