Sid Meier’s Pirates! Nintendo Wii video game of Sid's swashbuckler now available

The swashbuckling adventure, Sid Meier’s Pirates!, is now available on the Wii system from Nintendo for £29.99. After a successful mutiny, gamers serve as the ship’s captain and helm one of 27 fully customisable vessels in and around the treasure-laden 17th century Caribbean islands. Either by their ship’s cannon or sword’s blade, players must fend off their foes while they explore the exotic islands and surrounding seas hunting for hidden treasure.

“Spilling over with swashbuckling pirate exploration, Sid Meier's Pirates! is one of those rare games that is fun for both fans of the original and younger gamers who are new to the series," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

Originally developed by Firaxis Games, Sid Meier’s Pirates! was adapted for Wii by 2K China and Virtuous and includes the classic mini-games from the franchise’s original title such as Sword Fighting, Ship Combat and Dancing, as well as two new mini-games mapped to the Wii controls - Bombardment and Lock Picking. The game’s open-ended campaign provides captains with the chance of a lifetime to amass fortune, fame and notoriety all the while searching for kidnapped family members and waiting for the opportunity to find and defeat the evil Marquis de la Montalban once and for all.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! offers action-packed naval battles where captains must out maneuver opponents using prevailing winds in order to capture or sink the enemy’s ship. While on land, captains will descend upon and plunder seaside colonies, trade with local merchants, embark on daring secret missions, ransack hidden treasures, duel using blades of steel or pistols, capture seaside cities and dance the night away with the governor’s daughter. Sid Meier’s Pirates! brings more pirate action than ever before to Wii fans.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! is rated PEGI 12+.
