Microsoft to sell Xbox 360 in China following ban since 2000 - despite creating $4 billion profit for Chinese exports

China has had a ban on video game consoles since 2000, fear that youths will spend all their time playing games, the government edict in the year 2000 banned the sale of game consoles. It's OK for them to make the consoles or parts for them but there sale is not allowed (legally). Now this may change as Microsoft are working with the Chinese government to allow the sale of their Xbox 360.
Zang Yaqin of Microsoft told the Shanghi Daily of the companies move at the Entertainment Summit. He said they have no fixed timetable for the launch as it will hinge on several government bureaus.

Microsoft may use the fact that Xbox manufacture in China generates over $4 billion in export profits for China.

Nintendo also wants a slice of the massive Chinese market, their Wii console (illegal to sell in China) sold 2-3 million units in 2009.

China allow the iQue console to be distributed, this is based on Nintendo 64 hardware and was launched in 2003.
