It has been reported that the marriage, made in heaven, between the video game Farmville and the website Facebook may be ending - over money. Facebook have changed their agreement with developers and now want 30% commission on ALL financial transactions made through the site. So, could we see the eviction os Zynga games - Mafia Wars, FishVille and Cafe World? The revenue from FarmVille in 2007 was estimated to be around $150 million (£100 million) and 305 of that is a lot of money for hosting a game...83 million people play FarmVille on Facebook and is not only the main reason users visit the site it also encourages new members. So can FarmVille live without Facebook - very likely and they could start their own gaming group site.
Facebook credits have been introduced a virtual currency that can be used only on the site, and yes, Facebook take 30%!
So you may be fighting the Mafia or growing crops off Facebook in the future unless the two giants can get together and do a deal that suits both...
