Software sales for Sony's PlayStation 3 leapt 410 per cent in April, with Gran Turismo 5 - Prologue and Grand theft Auto IV leading the field with 2 million sales between them.
"Clearly, the tremendous legacy of Grand Theft Auto on PlayStation, combined with the blockbuster launch of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue packed a one-two punch with consumers at retail this month,"said Jack Tretton, president of SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America).
The PlayStation 3 console itself sold 187,000 units in April a jump of almost 130%.
PlayStation Store downloads on the PlayStation 3 stood at 6 million in the US alone that's 73 million downloads to date. Sony have 3.8 million registered PlayStation accounts in the US.
Over a million portable games were sold in April and hardware sales also rose by 5.4 per cent with the DualShock 3 controller topping $10.9 in sales during the month.
Total revenues were up almost 18 per cent to $1.9 billion - say Sony.
