Online Video Games for Kids Are Two of the Top Ten search terms on Google

Google just released the “Fastest Rising Search Terms” for 2007 and guess what? Children’s video games occupied two of the top 10. Webkinz and Club Penguin were the second and sixth fastest rising search terms on Google in 2007. I’ve played both of these games with my daughters, and found them to be safe, positive learning environments for them. And best of all, they are truly “fun” games

Nintendo Wii Shortages May Be Blessing in Disguise for Game Rental

John Fleming, CEO of GameZnFlix, an online provider of video games and movies for rent or purchase, said today that unfilled demand for the Wii Video Game Console may result in increased business for the game rental industry.

"The Wii is the hot ticket this Christmas and they're just not out there to be had," said Fleming. "It looks like a replay of Christmas 2006 when the Wii was commanding big premiums on eBay while last minute shoppers were lining up at Gamestop or Best Buy and too often leaving empty-handed. My guess is that those who have their heart set on a Wii aren't going to look instead to the XBox 360 or Playstation 3 which can cost double the price of a Wii or more," Fleming continued. "They're just different markets, and nobody's going to want to invest in more games for their 1st gen Xbox or Playstation 2. What does make sense for them is to turn to a video game rental program while Wii supply catches up with Wii demand. It's the perfect solution."

Industry sources say that Nintendo is leaving as much as a billion dollars on the table this season by not having enough consoles to meet demand. That equates to some five million machines. "We love the Wii," says Fleming, "and when customers are lucky enough to get one we have the games to keep them happy, but if they don't we're ready and able to keep their old game platform well-supplied with great game titles until they get the Wii of their dreams."

Boulder Dash-ROCKS! introduces the classic game mode on Nintendo DS and Sony PSP

Past the treacherous foes hiding in the Jungle World, the searing heat of the Lava World, the voracious sharks inhabiting the Water World and even the giant spiders of the Underworld - the first “Producer in a Box” video for "Boulder Dash-ROCKS!" takes viewers on the trip of a lifetime. The new video showcases ‘Planet Tour’ mode featuring classic Boulder Dash game play. ‘Planet Tour’, included in both the DS and PSP versions of Boulder Dash-ROCKS!, takes famed diamond hunter Rockford™ through four different worlds inhabited by hordes of nasty creatures. The video also provides some background information on this cult-classic diamond hunting title and Rockford’s new nemesis, Tentacle, who also has a passion for glittering diamonds.

Boulder Dash-ROCKS for the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP was developed by 10TACLE STUDIOS MOBILE GmbH and is co-published by 10TACLE STUDIOS AG and First Star Software, Inc.

The DS version was released throughout Europe on November 22nd, distributed by Electronic Arts Inc. Both the DS and PSP versions will be released throughout the world in the first quarter of 2008.

First Star Software, Inc.’s tricky puzzle and dexterity game made its debut in the early 80s and continues to fascinate its large fan base making it a classic in the history of interactive entertainment. Now Boulder Dash is back with a hot new look to take the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP platforms by storm. The hit game’s principle remains unchanged: players have to collect sparkling diamonds while avoiding numerous traps and beating opponents to reach them, all the while watching out for falling boulders.

Each platform version contains four gaming modes. In addition to the classic single-player mode, taking players through 80 levels across four different game worlds, Boulder Dash-ROCKS! now offers a new multi-player mode and two additional play modes. When developing Boulder Dash-ROCKS! a new game and different, game mode was custom designed for each of the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP platforms, modes never seen before in any Boulder Dash game.

GamersGate predicts massive growth over Christmas

GamersGate revealed today it's holiday season predictions for it's digital download business. Forecasted sales for December indicate a 1000% increase as compared to the same time period last year.

"Broadband penetration coupled with a noticeable change in consumer behavior will create a boom for digital distribution of games in 2008. A major consumer behavior study recently showed that 58% of broadband subscribers in the US already use the Internet to play games [1]. With consumers spending more time playing games on the Internet, it will become a natural step to purchase more of these said games online", saidTheodore Bergquist, CEO of GamersGate.

"Just like iTunes paved the way for the music industry during 2006, the gaming industry is on the verge of a similar breakthrough and the impressive growth displayed by GamersGate is just the beginning of what we will see during 2008", Bergquist continued.

Since its launch in 2006, GamersGate has experienced close to a 100% growth from quarter to quarter. The company's core business is focused around digital download of high quality PC games with accompanying services and the platform currently has more than 30 publishing partners worldwide, carrying major block busters like Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Hitman: Blood Money, The Witcher and more.

Kamael video game, the Largest Expansion in Lineage II History

Epic Game adds All-New Race, Lands, Fortress Battles

NCsoft® Europe today announced the release of Kamael, the newest and largest addition to the Lineage® II franchise. At more than 1 Gigabyte, Kamael is the largest expansion ever for the massively multiplayer online PC game and adds an entirely new playable race, new lands, ongoing fortress battles, instanced dungeons and new account services to the game, which has continued to increase in depth and story.

The huge Kamael expansion is free to all current Lineage II subscribers. Lineage II is known as the gaming market’s premier player-versus-player (PvP) MMO, and since its launch in late 2003, has reached more than 17 million players worldwide.
The main feature of the expansion is a new playable race called the Kamael, one-winged soldiers who control a form of dark magic and are presented in different class paths based on gender, with both male and female characters possessing distinct combat abilities. The ultimate goal of the Kamael warriors, born on the Isle of Souls, is to earn a second wing and reach the powerful “final form.”

Adding to the intrigue and massive battles Lineage II is known for are clan-based, daily fortress battles. Smaller in scale to the enormous castle sieges, the fortress battles will allow smaller clans to gain a foothold on territory and elevating their clan in the larger political and military background.
Highlights for veteran players of the game include the addition of lands for those above level 70, Hellbound and the Isle of Prayer. Also coming soon, highly-requested game features such as character server transfers, name changes and gender changes will become available for purchase.

Newer players will enjoy new items and enhancements that will aid the solo play experience for those at lower levels, helping to make Lineage II more accessible without diluting the challenge for which the game is well known.

“The Kamael expansion is so epic that it is hard to pin down which feature is the most exciting,” said Tim Tan, NCsoft’s North American producer of Lineage II. “The new Kamael race is very unique and adds a new world of playability to the game. The new high-level lands will benefit our longtime players seeking harder challenges, while the new-player and soloing features will make getting to the heart of the game easier for more players. The sheer amount of content in this expansion is unbelievable and I really look forward to seeing the players’ response.”

Additional new features include a set of instanced dungeons and new item slots and items that include new more powerful weapons and armor. Instanced dungeons provide players a place where they can hunt by themselves, untouched by players or creatures. There are two different kinds of Instanced Dungeons: one that requires a quest to enter, and the other that requires the acquisition of a castle or fortress to enter.

Also, when players tackle particularly challenging adventures or overcome monstrous bosses, they can capture the moment on video with the game’s newly polished record and replay system that allows players to speed up or slow down their footage when they view their captured battles.

Existing players of Lineage II will receive The Kamael update automatically to their accounts. For gamers wishing to experience Lineage II for the first time, the game is available at retail at £19.99 / €29.99, which includes a 15 day time card, giving players a total of 45 days play time. To purchase the game or other Lineage II merchandise, go to the PlayNC store at: http://eu.plaync.com/eu/store/ .
