The playtest is open now. You can download and play the current build today. There are no restrictions on coverage — you're free to stream it, record it, review it, or share whatever you'd like. No embargo, no NDA.Throneforged will be part of Steam Next Fest from October 19–26. A demo will be available on the Steam store page throughout the event.
If you'd like a quick sense of what makes Throneforged different: every match starts on a mirror-symmetric hex map with a seven-hex Central Keep at the center, guarded by a boss that must be killed before anyone can claim it. Players begin as a neutral empire and lock into their faction mid-game based on the tech path they choose. Combat is entirely deterministic — no dice rolls, no hit chances, no random crits. Units gain XP, promote through four tiers, unlock abilities, and pick up gear from monster camps scattered across the map.
Six factions cover a wide range of playstyles — from the Ashen Horde's aggressive Warg Rider kill chains to the Umbral Pact's Lich raising entire graveyards as skeleton armies in the late game. The Tidecallers can flood the map and drag land units into the ocean. The Ironhold Clans march through mountains nobody else can cross.
