Grumman F6F Hellcat for MS Flight Simulaor X

A new UK based producer of addons for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator X has launched the first of a range of WWII aircraft to flight simmers through their website. Real Flight’s debut product is a replica of the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the acclaimed carrier based fighter that joined the war in February 1943. Development of the FSX Hellcat has been ongoing by Project Manager Dean Greasley who launched Real Flight in June 2008, and his small team to complete.

Attention to detail has been the key to already gaining positive feedback from forums across the flight sim community. Built only for FSX including SP1, SP2 and Acceleration (no planned version for FS9), the Hellcat has a highly detailed virtual cockpit complete with 3d gauges and authentic textures, as well as switches to arm and use both bombs and rockets, as well as the working drop tank.

Grumman F6F HellcatExternally the model maker has satisfied the rivet counters with all animations present and correct, including folding wings and the crucial tail hook for those carrier landings. The authentic sound package also adds to the immersion achieved as you open up the throttle and watch how the self shadowing, bump mapping and spectacular highlights bring any of the 12 carefully selected paint schemes to life.
“We have started as we mean to go on,” said Dean Greasley. “The benchmark has been set high by our first product to show the standard we are setting for ourselves and for our competitors. An addon package spurred on by the immediate sales success is already underway for the Hellcat.”

Space War Commander Free download

Dreamspike Studios has announced the release of the Official Demo of Space War Commander, their new real-time strategy game. It can be download from their web site at www.dreamspike.com.
Space War Commander is a new take on the strategy genre, avoiding base-building and micromanagement in favor of new game elements never before seen in an RTS. For example, you can take advantage of supply and demand in a galaxy, transporting goods between planets. Of course, you can also travel to contested territories, hunt enemy ships, and sell their hulls for scrap. Finally, why not buy fast ships to outrun pirates and lead them to your opponent’s base?
Space War Commander is different because you have a limited amount of money with which to buy ships. As a result, you need to really think about makeup of your hand-picked force and what to do with it. Are you going to buy massive Destroyers and fight for control of valuable planets? Or will you invest in Bombers and attempt to surgically strike your enemy where it is most vulnerable? Every ship is vital. Every decision is important. In Space War Commander, it’s Your Mind Against the Universe.

Free bonus soundtrack CD for Legacy of Ys Books 1 and 2

Experience the revered music of Ys with this limited edition companion disc.

Representatives from Atlus today stood silently before assembled members of the gaming press for an estimated 30 to 40 minutes, headphones in ears, listening to the Legacy of Ys: Books I & II soundtrack. Following the awkward delay, it was then announced that the game's renowned musical score would be offered as a free pre-order bonus at select retailers.

Epic in melody and arrangement, the Ys Books I & II soundtrack has long been considered one of the greatest video same scores ever created. Originally released in an era when many games used music simply to avoid stretches of silence, Ys offered a sweeping emotional score, building on action and tension to provide players with an altogether potent experience. As relevant today as ever, the freshly arranged music CD still manages the same level of excitement and energy, and stand as a testament to true excellence in game music.

World of Goo wins Game of the Year

Towering over all other games, World of Goo was the 2008 winner of the Independent Game of the Year award. The award, the culminating event of Game Tunnel's 7th Annual Game of the Year awards, is given each year to the most outstanding Independent Video Game.
The GameTunnel Independent Game of the Year awards have been established to honor ingenuity, innovation and excellence in Independent Games. This year's awards began December 6th with the Sports Game of the Year award and have continued through 3 weeks and 13 categories finishing with the Top 10 Independent Games of the Year and World of Goo taking the top spot.

"World of Goo is one of those games that really shows what Indie is all about," said Russell Carroll, editor-In-Chief at GameTunnel. "It was created on a shoestring, fueled by the passion of two people who did whatever it took to make their game. Their passion is evident throughout the game. It's a fantastic game to play and it has been tremendous to see World of Goo getting so much mainstream awareness. It was an easy pick as our Independent Game of the Year winner this year."

While World of Goo was the winner, it was only one of 40 different games that were included in the 2008 awards.

"In covering something as unique as Indie games, it's always been our pleasure to highlight a large number of games in our awards. The fact is that many of these games are not as fortunate as World of Goo and are completely unknown to the gaming public. There are hundreds of Indie games released each year, and we're happy to be able to do these awards to make the public aware of a few gems that they might have otherwise missed."

An article of the Top 10 games that also provides reviews and links to all the award winners can be found at: http://www.gametunnel.com/article-705.htm. The list of all award categories and winners is as follows:

MAGI now $15.95 plus half price ArcMagi sequel game... Free trial download

A new version of the indie strategy game MAGI was released. The developers lowered the price to $15.95, and announced that every owner of MAGI will get a 50% discount for ArcMagi, its upcoming sequel.

www.getmagi.com, December 30, 2008 – Tom Grochowiak, independent game developer, released a new version of MAGI, a downloadable strategy/rpg in which the player takes a role of a dueling wizard. With the new release, the price of the game was lowered to $15.95.

The developer also announced that every owner of the full version of MAGI will get a 50% discount for ArcMagi, its upcoming sequel. „This promotion is my token of gratitude towards all the great folks who bought the game. Without them there would be no ArcMagi. All the money I raised through MAGI sales were used in the development of updates and now the sequel. Thanks, guys.” – explains Tom Grochowiak, the main developer of the game.

ArcMagi is a promisingly good looking cross between RPG, strategy and a fighting game. Much like the original MAGI in its premise of taking part in wizard duels, but with beautiful and detailed 2d art, live-recorded soundtrack by Rob Westwood and several gameplay improvements.
"It’s more of a rework than a sequel. We took all the money and feedback we've got from MAGI and used it to make something really great. It's going to be dynamic, strategically deep, playable in short bursts as well as long sessions, well presented and, hopefully, fun as hell” – Tom promises.
ArcMagi was announced on September 21, 2008 on the MAGI community forums. The exact release date is still unknown but the developers say they aim for summer 2009.
„We’re indies, we’re free to work on the game as long as we feel is necessary, and we’re going to use that to our advantage. We would like ArcMagi to be available on Q3 of 2009, but we’re more focused on making a great game. And if it will need a few more touches, we will take our time to add them”.

How to make money in Myth War 2 Become a video game millionaire

As players continue to play Myth War II, one of the most common questions is how to get fast money.

Today the folks behind Myth War 2 are going to teach everyone how to make some easy money.

Fast Money Wins 1: 100-ring Integral Quest
Players can receive this quest from Duan at Demon Square and will earn 100 Integrals worth about 1,500,000 to 1,800,000 game gold every time they save NPCs in trouble.
Players stand a high chance of getting Dragon Stones that can be sold to an NPC for 630,000 game gold or to other players without set prices. If they are lucky and meet someone who is rich and generous, they could make up to 2,000,000 game gold. This quest is easy to handle and suitable for players Level 30+. Here are some tips and tricks to remember when questing:
1.Keep track of the location entry on your teleport scrolls. 2. Find your own rhythm while questing.

Fast Money Wins 2: Combat Thieves and win Integrals
It will be a lot easier for players if they follow the rules set for this quest. Go to the bar in Woodlingor to receive the quest and fight the Thief, Thief Boss and Girl Thief to win Integrals. These guys are not high maintenance and players should be able to take them down without much effort. Complete the quest in solo or party and get some pet eggs. The quest is designed in a turn based system. More integrals will be scored in the first 10 rounds. That’s means players may win a lot of game gold during these 10 rounds.

Aurora Blade video game - Newbie Guide

In order to help newbie players smoothly play the game, the Aurora Blade team is giving a brief newbie guide for all players.

1. After entering the game and creating a character, you can work hard to level up by accepting main quests. Pay attention! You can accept mission quests from the NPC Harbor Supervisor in the Center Square of Aurora Seaport. You also still have a chance to obtain a Mushroom, containing a Good Fellow Card or any blue stat equipment.

2. Even though you’ve joined a team, you may be unable to obtain any exp if you don’t join in any battles. Only by attacking monsters can you obtain the really great amounts of exp. Also, make sure you join teams that are near the same level as you. If the level gap between you and your teammates is too much then you may not even earn any exp.

3. Elite monsters are aggressive and powerful. Don’t even think about bothering an elite monster when your level is close to theirs, its much safer to wait until you have an overwhelming advantage. Organize a team with 5 teammates, including at least 1 priest who has learnt Healing and Revival skills. What’s more, all teammates must work together. Elite monsters haven’t earned their status as “Elite” because they’re pushovers.

4. Once you’ve taken down some Elite monsters and feel ready for the next challenge, you’ll find BOSSes waiting for you. These ultra powerful monsters have fought their way to the top of the food chain and won’t give up their spot without a fight. Fighting these cunning creatures requires close cooperation among teammates. Players must always watch their steps and understand their role in the group strategy. You groups Priest may be occupied with healing someone else, or the BOSS may have turned his full attention on squashing you. Tactics and strategy can be the deciding factors here, so make sure you’re ready before you dive right in.

5. Stat point distribution, equipment refining and enchanting all directly affect a character’s abilities. Obtaining top equipment can be difficult, but it is one of the easiest ways to increase stats exactly where you need them.

6. All Level 15+ players can PK in Aurora Blade. However, you can’t maliciously attack other players on purpose. If you kill 3+ players, you will be put into prison after death.

7. After you obtain certain blueprints from monsters, you can buy materials from the Forging Master in the Equipment Shop and then forge whatever you like!

8. If you don't like completing quests to level up, you can still choose to kill monsters. It is better for you to defeat Little Sea Horses, Conches, and Sea Urchins when you Level 10. You can then obtain some White Coral and make certain Stewed Seafood with the help of Boss Phoebe. When you are Level 12-13, go defeat Wild Rabbits and get some carrots and meat. When you are Level 14-15, it is better to defeat Hell Mages to obtain some money or cloth. If you want to obtain some apples and meat, go defeat the Leopard Cats when you are Level 17-18

Dead Rising video game rumored for PlayStation 3

dead rising
Dead Rising, Capcom's Xbox 360 exclusive take on the classic zombie flick Dawn of the Dead, may be making its way to the PlayStation 3 after all.

On a recent holiday post at the official SCEA blog, Capcom's overseer of downloadable titles John Diamonon mentioned a secret surprise heading to the PSN, to celebrate the great reception the Capcom store has received. When a comment was made asking about Dead Rising hitting the store, John Diamonon replied specifically to it, hinting "Who announced it? Me? I don't think so!".

Capcom's official standpoint on the franchise is that the original was only Xbox 360 exclusive because the PlayStation 3 wasn't out at that point.

They further went on to say that any sequels would inevitably be multiplatform. And with rumors of Dead Rising 2 being in development constantly popping up, this would be a great way to catch PlayStation 3 owners up to the franchise. Expect to hear more on this soon.

PS3 game White Knight Chronicles sells over 130,000 in first week

One of the most anticipated PlayStation 3 'exclusive' games White Knight Chronicles, even though the relatively low Famitsu review score knocked the hype level down a couple of levels.
Now, the latest rumor is that White Knight Chronicles has sold over 130,000 copies in its first week.

According to Kotaku, WKC did manage to sell this decent number after it first hit store shelves in Japan on December 25. This isn't quite the splash Sony and Level 5 were hoping it'd make, but considering that Famitsu analysis, they should probably be happy that a sub-30-scoring game didn't drive away most potential consumers.

In comparison, the biggest PS3 seller in Japan so far has been Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots with 476,000 copies sold, followed by Devil May Cry 4 with 212,000. However, those games came out in the first half of 2008 and WKC just released last week, so...if the number is indeed correct, 130,000 isn't bad. At some point, we do expect to hear a North American and European release date for this promising RPG, but we now have our reservations about its quality. Famitsu isn't the only source to issue some "meh" feedback for the game, so we may have to turn our focus to other titles in 2009 that absolutely guarantee greatness. It's a dog-eat-dog world in next-gen software land, and if you don't deliver...

For our part, we're hoping the game doesn't entirely flop in the other two major regions, just because it may discourage Level 5 from making another RPG. We know they're capable, and a little slip on WKC doesn't mean they should throw in the towel as far as we're concerned.

Facebook add social games

facebook logog

Fears that computer games are turning young people antisocial are being challenged by a new generation of "sociable" games which are played through the internet.

The rise of social networking websites such as Facebook has helped attract millions of people to games which they can play with their friends.

It could represent a major challenge to the makers of hugely popular video consoles such as the Nintendo Wii or the Xbox.

While the credit crisis has forced companies across the world to rein in spending, internet games developers have received a string of multi-million dollar investments in recent months allowing them to plan expansion at a time when other businesses are making cuts.

Playfish, a British company which provides mini-golf and bowling games among others on Facebook, has attracted 25 million registered users since it was set up a year ago.

Another game on the site, a social networking device called Kidnap!, attracted 2.5 million new players in the month of October alone.

Full post on The Telegraph here...

From Mercury news...

While the rest of us have been socializing on Facebook, Webs.com has been building a very interesting business. It has been creating free games on Facebook that have garnered a huge number of page views. WarBook, a role-playing game with no animated graphics, and other Webs.com games have generated a billion page views since the first game launched 90 days ago in August. The games are generating ad revenue with just about every view…

“We launched it and it’s exploding,” said Pishevar. “WarBook is getting 15 million page views a day.”…

… Street Race is a new SGN game that has no graphics. You simply sign up, get $1,000 in play money, buy a car, then race. In the race, you click on another user. Then nothing happens. Nothing. The next screen that comes up tells you if you won or lost, how much money you earned or lost, and the skill points you earned. As your skill points grow, you win more races and get more money to spend souping up your car. The social part comes in where you can get more money by inviting 20 friends to join…

It’s simple and easy. That’s why the game has gotten more than a million page views on its first day. You can play a round in about one second…

“We’re leveraging the social graph,” Pishevar said. “It’s gaming on tap. You use it as you need it. We are building the first social gaming network on top of the Facebook social operating system.”

Sony to release a PlayStation 3 Net version without Blu-Ray?

PlayStation 3 (20GB)Sony have so far lost the console war but won the HD DVD war but is this a big problem?

With each PS3 they make the Blu-Ray drive costs Sony over $100 of the $400 US price tag.

Now if Sony were to bring out a cut-down version for Internet use with download games and standard dual layer DVD drive they could reduce the cost and increase market share.

With cheap large hard drives they could provide pre-installed games. Plus Sony could take advantage of high speed broadband connects (especially in the far east) to download games using their PlayStation Network. An external Blu-Ray drive option could be possible (like HDD Xbox)

It's not all bad news for Sony their PlayStation 2 console has sold over 140 million units - more than all the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 put together. New titles are still being released on PS2 frequently.

Who knows what 2009 will bring - comment below...
